Foundations of Visual Storytelling
Join C5 Studios and Blue Heron Farm for a two-part photography class with cinematographer and cameraperson Marion Tucker. Using the farm as the backdrop, students will learn how to build a visual story through images, from photographing in the field to selecting and reviewing a final series.

Class Dates:
May 24, 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Blue Heron Farm
May 28, 5:30 to 7:00 PM at C5 Studios

Come walk the farm and learn how to tell a story through image-based narratives. Space is limited.

Gosh I am excited to announce, in collaboration with C5 Studios, we’re hosting a 5-week Plein Air Watercolor Painting Series right here at Blue Heron Farm, led by none other than Krystina Maixner of Chalk Fox Studio. Blue Heron Farm is meant to be more than a place that produces food. It’s a place for learning, gathering, and building connection to the land. This series is such a delightful way to step into that.

Classes will be held outdoors, surrounded by the orchard and open space, with each session focusing on a different technique. Whether you’ve never picked up a paintbrush or you’re looking to get back into it, this is a welcoming place to start.

Join us Sunday, April 26 at Blue Heron Farm for a day of native bees, biodiversity, and hands-on discovery and fun with the Eastern Sierra Land Trust.

Learn about the remarkable lives of our local pollinators and simple ways to support them in your own garden and how we do it on the farm.

12:30–2:30 | BioBlitz! On the Farm
Help document what’s blooming, crawling, fluttering, and buzzing around the farm as part of the City Nature Challenge using the iNaturalist app. A great event for kids!

Gosh, we are so stoked to partner with C5 Studios to host this year’s Winter Solstice Lantern Walk at Blue Heron Farm. Across many cultures and over thousands of years, the Winter Solstice has been a time for people to pause, acknowledge the longest night, and welcome the slow return of light.

Carrying a small piece of that long history into our own valley feels meaningful. We are grateful to share this tradition with our community and to host it here at the farm this year.

I’m excited to share some big news from our little corner of the Eastern Sierra: Blue Heron Farm has been accepted into the 2026 FARMpreneurs Strategic Sprint.

FARMpreneurs is a week-long, off-the-farm executive education program designed specifically for community-based farmers who are on the threshold of growth. Over the course of the Sprint, farmers develop a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) and build a concrete, multi-year strategy to actually make it happen.

Description goes hereWe are thrilled to launch our very first Work-Trade Program for the 2026 season. This is something we’ve dreamed about for a long time, and we can’t wait to welcome the first crew who will help shape this program from the ground up.

This Saturday, November 22nd, all profits from the farm stand will be donated to the Mammoth Community Foundation Fire Relief Fund.

This past week, I had the honor of presenting at the first annual LEAF Conference — a gathering designed to bring together leaders in land, energy, agriculture, and forestry to strengthen the Sierra region’s natural economy. From producers and processors to educators and policymakers, participants spent two days exploring innovation, workforce growth, and sustainable resource management across the region.
