  1. Keep Them Cool: These vegetables prefer cool, moist conditions. Store them in the refrigerator to maintain their crispness.

  2. Don’t Wash Before Storing: Moisture from washing can lead to mold or spoilage. Rinse them just before use.

  3. Use Proper Packaging: Store in breathable or perforated plastic bags to allow airflow while retaining the right level of humidity.

Storage Solutions for Specific Cruciferous Veggies

  • Broccoli: Store unwashed in a breathable plastic bag in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator. Use within 3-5 days for the best flavor and texture.

  • Cauliflower: Wrap the head loosely in a damp paper towel and place it in a perforated bag in the crisper drawer. Cauliflower can last up to a week when stored this way.

  • Cabbage: Cabbage is more durable than broccoli or cauliflower. Store it unwashed in the crisper drawer, where it can last 2-3 weeks or longer. Keep the outer leaves intact to act as a natural barrier.

  • Inspect Regularly: Check for any yellowing or soft spots and remove affected areas promptly to prevent further spoilage.

  • Cut as Needed: If you only need part of a vegetable, keep the remaining portion wrapped tightly in plastic wrap or in a sealed container.
