Crispy Sage Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe
Here is some fun beta: to make sure you get the gooiest cheese ever - build your sandwich, and then microwave it just until the cheese melts - then fry it up in the pan. Boom. Never again will you have the disappointment that your crust is burnt and your cheese still isn’t melted.
Ingredients
Sage Butter
1/4 stick unsalted butter
1 bunch of sage leaves
salt
Cheese Sandwich
good crusty bread
cheese of your choice | My go-to’s are gruyere, a mix of fontina and goat cheese, or an aged cheddar
Instructions
Step One
Melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sage and fry until the leaves are crispy and golden. Take the pan off of the heat. Remove the sage leaves from the butter, and put them on a paper towel to cool. Season with a tiny bit of salt. Pour the butter into a small bowl.
Step Two
Assemble your sandwiches, adding a few sage leaves in between your cheese layer.
[If you want to use the microwave beta - this is where you do it - microwave until the cheese is just melted, and then continue with the rest of the steps]
Brush the outside of the bread slices with your sage butter.
Step Three
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a bit of the sage butter to the pan and cook your sandwiches until the bread is crispy and golden and the cheese is melty.
